St. Pierre and Miquelon, France! Picture Pages

Welcome to France! This Maritime Island is retained by France as a foothold in North America. It is the first to welcome the New Year.
Fishing and lobstering are the main industries. A little tourism helps and they were more than ready for us.
The small island was a key defense post in WWI , and, of course, against pirates. Notice the French message on the missile.
This small Cathedral is the first where I have seen a window dedicated to St. Pope John XXIII.
Thanks, Carol, for spotting just what I needed. My glasses are no longer sewn together with needle and thread, although I thought that was ingenious!
This monument honors the soldiers of both the great wars and the fishermen who were lost at sea. It also mentions the wives, children and families. Notice that the wall is ship-shaped. Every town has its memorials and this tiny village is no exception.
Our visit ended with music with a little craft fair and dancing in the streets!
