Reykjavik, Iceland
I had a great day revisiting here. I stayed in the city when my Blue Lagoon visit was cancelled. I rode the Hop On bus and had a nice tour. The highlight was visiting the cathedral.
It might surprise you how modern the city is. And there are construction cranes everywhere as the city continues to grow.
The Cathedral of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Iceland is a beautiful and distinctive creation. Hallgrímskirkja sits on a hill and is seen from most everywhere in the city.
Leifur(Leif)Eiríksson looks to new lands to explore from the front of the church.
A series of aluminum statues were a temporary display.
The simple design of the altar is totally lost in the long view and is perfect for this magnificent cathedral in its simplicity.
Again, a simple Baptismal font and the set to the side traditional pulpit were not even noticed from the entry door.
All aspects of the interior design mimic the exterior plan. Even the 5,275 pipes of the organ!
This is a second organ near the front for ordinary daily use.
The pews have reversible backs so that the congregation can face the organ at the back when thee are organ concerts.
Thrilled to see this iconic church in person on this visit!
Back on board, while Carol was on her eight hour tour I took advantage of my balcony viewpoing and caught up on this fascinating book! Hopefully I will make it back again to Iceland and finally the Lagoon!
