Nanortalik, Greenland

We had to sadly skip the Icelandic port I most looked forward to, Grundarfyjordur. I wanted to learn more about Berserkers and also that was where I was going to buy souvenirs - Berserker themed! A severe storm was coming so to make sailing more smooth and comfortable we took two days instead of one to return to Greenland. Here are some views of tiny Nanortalik.
The gentleman inside this tiny market was feilleting fish he had just caught. While i was inside a local woman came in to make a purchase. No room for the two of us!
Two of our ship people were walking along with ladies taking their baby for a walk in the "warm" sun. The baby was totally covered up and the local ladies had no English but smiles always work.
This lady was selling small home made items of jewelry. Even from the profile you can see the distinct Inuit features as have our native Alaskans.
Seems so serene to me.
A choir was singing and some folks sat to listen. It was $10 USD to do so. All along the way people were singing, or playing an instrument, or selling small items to the tourists. A couple of men offered to let us kayack or to take us out in a fishing boat. They do not get many and were happy for the opportunity.
The rocks are not just natural piles but aranged to mark gravesites. Most have no indication of who they are or when they dies. AMong these more ancient graves are a few modern ones. They have been added in random, empty spaces. Carol and some friends climbed up to the high point. On the other side is more water.
The school for children. There is actually a small medical college located in what looks like an ordinary house.
Our captain did a great job 'parking' among the icebergs!
Bonus tonight about one a.m.!
