St. John's - Picture Pages

The Superior Court Building was the first thing we saw as we walked up from where the Nieuw Statendam docked.

The main shopping street was welcoming but it was early. It soon filled with shoppers, coffee drinkers, and people enjoying a beautiful day.
Each of the stores was displaying good merchandise and brightly decorated to attract the eye.
Very clever public service ad. I thought they wanted you to sit a spell and stay. Then I noticed the ash can on the post for cigaretter disposal. And we did notice that in these colder climes it seemed more people smoked than back at home.
Carol always heads for an interesting example of architecture! Love this red brick with the traditional fire escape. The plaque identifies the value of this building as a landmark. The foundation was laid by electronic communication with George V on the day of his cornation. Kind of interesting as "electronic communication" was a new thing back then.
The beautiful seaside park was perfect.
We found ourselves on one of the historic walking routes, even though we didn't know it until we had done it. There are 6 historic churches in St. John's. Each open to visit with volunteers to help you maximise your visit.
So many beautiful images. The statue of St. Patrick in the Catholic Cathedral honors the distinct Irish heritage of St. John's. The altar tapestry is generally covered to protect the gold threads. It was opened to show a tour, which I was not on but took advantage of the view.
Back at the port Carol poses before a display of some of the colorful homes for which St. John's is known.
Just a block up from where the ship is docked people gathered in front of the Superior Court to watch the Stanley Cup Parade. Alex Newhook is a native of St. John's.
Newhook help the Cup high for everyone to see.
