Sea Day #4 or # 7 – depends on how you count!

Today is a genuine Sea Day and as you know they kind of blend together with some highlights to break up the peace and quiet.  So it is Day #4.  But if you add in the consecutive three days of Scenic Cruising it is Day #7!    They are all good but of course the scenic days are why we paid the big bucks for this cruise.

Today I played some of the trivia and we did well in the Progressive.  We are five on our team, six is the max allowed.  BUT two teams are playing with seven!  They say they are just watching but it is obvious that they also contribute.  Luckily we are in first or second place and today scored higher than the cheaters so we will see!  It’s only a game but some pride can be taken when you know your stuff.  Trick is everyone knows different stuff!

Mickey’s presentation was good again as is to be expected.  I am purchasing the chip that will have some of his presentation as well as maps and photos.  Anna and I also attended the scientist speaker’s show.  It was about why there are Northern Lights.  Very interesting since we are going there next February.

Anna and I were going to meet our friends for lunch but couldn’t find them.  At the buffet we happened to sit with a couple who had done the Norwegian Ferry tour last year.  So they had lots of tips about what to wear and to bring.  I think, or at least I hope, our Viking Ocean ship will be warmer and more comfortable than a car ferry.

The matinee game show was the Wedding Game but not like the usual on a cruise ship.  They had three couples and there were three actual games played including the classics - pop the balloon and pass the lemon.  Alejandro made sure the Australian guy who was so funny the other day was chosen again for purposes of revenge.  Again he favored the Argentinians by having them do fewer things in each contest but still, again, the Australian won!  The whole audience was cheering for them.  They had to do extra turns and still beat the clock!  And they are just funny.

This boat is about as noisy as a Carnival one.  There is almost always some loud music playing in the central atrium which is open all the way from Deck 3 up through Deck 14.  It is funny because the Library, where I am sitting now, is on Deck Ten center.  So the noise is constant from about 9:00 a.m. until at least midnight.  Right now some dance class is going on.  Maybe it is Zumba Class, with instructions in Spanish but the voice become garbled at this height.  Maybe it is English.  The music pulses and people clap but not quite all together!  Something about ‘sunshine and moonlight.  Oh great, now it is cranked up.

After dinner we played cards in the Card Room which isn’t so much a room as the space under the library that opens onto the Grand Foyer and all the loud music. But it does have one round and five or six felt topped card tables.  Quiet doesn’t really matter to us that much as we mostly just laugh!

What is crazy is that I was speaking with Allen this morning, whom I met in the library yesterday.  His friend came over and was teasing him about talking too loudly, which we were, of course, not doing.  People were reading.  But yesterday some person was irate that these two friends were talking too loud. He complained that it was a library and you are supposed to be quiet.  Of course the music was blasting so what the heck!  There is a quiet zone in one of the lounges from 11 to 3 every day.  Seriously, the only quiet is in your cabin which is indeed well insulated.  Oddly though the bathrooms are not.  You can hear everything going on in the next door bathroom all the time.
