Sea Day One we had a leisurely breakfast in Normandie and really enjoyed the opportunity to have pancakes, for Carol, and French toast, for me, which were served hot enough to melt the butter! Latte for Carol and two pots of tea for me!
At 9:00 a.m., 400 of us had a meeting with the Documentation Officer, Rebecca, in the theater. She reviewed the process of technically disembarking and reboarding for the second leg of the trip. That was about a third of those on the Rome-to-Rome trip. Rebecca and Celebrity have really made it easy to do. Greatly improved from the last time I did this with them.
First Rebecca joked about us getting us all first to Amsterdam. In the letter we had received it referred to doing it there. Someone forgot to change the name of the city when they used the same letter as from the Spring crossing. She then reiterated the info in the letter and answered questions. We can leave the ship any time after docking. If it is before 8:00 a.m. you will get your new room key, which you need even if staying in the same cabin as are we, from the transit officer in the port when you came back from your tour or outing. If you are going ashore after 8:00 in the morning, you go to the Meeting Room before 10:00 to do the same.
The speaker gave us tips for visiting Rome. Perfect for those who only flew in at the beginning of the cruise and didn't spend two full days walking miles through the city!He will be leaving us in Rome and new speakers, maybe more alert, will join us.
It is a nice day to play trivia which is a little harder on this ship, but we really play to learn. We shopped a little to use up our credit. We ignored the Art Auction, although we did meet a very nice guy, Eddy, from Park West. He is very chatty; I suspect he is often bored standing by a painting no one want. He told us a great many things about how different cruise lines operate, treat their crew, and generally deal with issues. His position as a vendor gives him access to both sides of cruising.
Special dessert display at lunch. It is October 28th so Breast Cancer Awareness cupcakes! We were going to watch the movie but messed up our timing so I will watch Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris at home.
The entertainment this evening was very good and well done. Rockumentary involved the whole cast of singers and dancers. Lots of lights, lots of movement in the big screen. Singers would be hidden up on platforms behind it and then it would open to revel them. Some were rising from the floor. Elton John, Elvis, Janis Joplin, Woodstock, all even up to the present were represented with quick songs and costume changes. Really a history of Rock ‘n’ Roll in 45 minutes. The best of the cast shows we have seen.
I had a brief panic, nightmare, during the night about having to pack to go home. But even in my dream I remembered that we are going on!
The second day was more of the same restful activities. We won two trivia sessions! We took time to say goodbye to some of the friends who are leaving us tomorrow. Dinner was quiet in Tuscan as many people are packing and getting ready to put their bags in the halls and get a good night’s rest before the stress of flying home. Some few we met will stay in Europe for a week to travel, especially if they did not come early for the cruise.
The show was a split performance of the MacDonald Brothers and Andrew Derbyshire. Andrew is staying of for the crossing so we will have more opportunities to see him. We had a late drink in the Grand Plaza and enjoyed the music of the Duo Opalira. I think they are our favorites of the random music performers.
We plan to go off not too early in the morning to avoid the rush. Also, most things won’t be open on shore before ten, I think. We went to the late-night game show which involved the Club audience to split in half and support the two players with answers. Our side won, of course. We old people have a lot of useless knowledge floating around in their heads!
